JUELZ - DRAMATICA TOUR

The Fruit · Durham, NC

Sat, Oct 17·9:00 PM

JUELZ at The Fruit is the kind of night where the room itself becomes part of the instrument. You've been leaning hard into trance lately, and this is the darker, stranger end of that spectrum: progressive psytrance that builds in long, twisting corridors rather than anthemic drops. The Fruit's warehouse space lets the low end breathe in a way a club can't. If you go, go for the full two hours, because the set is structured as one continuous arc. This is a stretch from the Above & Beyond side of your taste, but the Ian William Craig part of you that likes sound as texture will find something here too.

The Linda Lindas

Haw River Ballroom · Carrboro, NC

Fri, Oct 16·8 pm

The Linda Lindas at Haw River Ballroom is a punk show with a grin on its face. They write short, sharp songs about being young and furious and right, with harmonies that cut through the garage-rock fuzz. You've had blink-182 and Propagandhi in rotation, and this is the next generation of that same impulse: melody first, volume second, no wasted minutes. Haw River's room is big enough to feel like an event but small enough that the band's energy doesn't evaporate. Grace Bowers opens, and I don't know her work, so treat that as a coin flip. The headliner is the reason to go.

OSO OSO

Motorco Music Hall · Durham, NC

Thu, Oct 22·8:00 pm

Oso Oso at Motorco is the kind of emo that doesn't wallow. The guitars are bright, the hooks land fast, and the lyrics have a self-awareness that keeps the whole thing from tipping into melodrama. You lived in post-hardcore for years, and this is the pop-punk cousin that shares a lot of the same DNA without the screaming. Motorco's mid-size room suits them: loud enough to feel it, intimate enough to see the guitar work. Leisure Hour and Bad Luck open, both playing variations on emo and pop-punk, and Bad Luck's jazz leanings might catch your ear. This is a comfortable yes.
